Delta Gamma History
Delta Gamma Chapter is the first chartered Undergraduate chapter in Jackson, MS. It was chartered on the campus of Tougaloo College on November 22, 2003.
The Chartered Members of Delta Gamma were Victoria Crockett (Tougaloo), Loretta Cain (Tougaloo), Ashley Drake(Tougaloo), Velsey Gentry (JSU), Taranna Hammond (Tougaloo), Elizabeth McInnis (JSU), LaTanya Mingo (Tougaloo), Ayana Taylor (Tougaloo), Paula Wansley (Tougaloo) and Delma Warmack (Tougaloo).
The first Basileus of Delta Gamma was Taranna Hammond of Detroit, MI.
Ms. Hammond stepped down after serving three months. She was replaced by Paula Wansley. The charter resides on Tougaloo College campus but it is considered a City-Wide chapter. Delta Gamma continues to dedicate time and talents to the community through workshops and community service.
Delta Gamma participates in the Tougaloo’s Cotillion by entering a “Miss Gamma Phi Delta”. Delta Gamma has presented a “Miss Gamma Phi Delta” at JSU campus in 2016. We pride ourselves in giving back to the community and being refined and cultured.
Delta Alpha (Graduate) is the advisory chapter to Delta Gamma. With joint efforts both chapters work in the community on numerous events. From volunteering with Mississippi Food Network, Multiple Sclerosis Walk, Habitat for Humanities, Diabetes Walk, Susan Komen Walk, Go Red, Sister Soldier project for Make a Difference Day, and visiting nursing homes in the community to celebrate Catherine E. Bozeman Day. Delta Gamma has held events on Tougaloo campus to celebrate founder’s day and recruiting efforts. Delta Gamma has also worked in many capacities with Delta Alpha with the Youth Auxiliaries that has included the Martin Luther King parade, JSU homecoming parade and various fund raisers.
